BEST START – Breastfeeding Support Group

Being a new mother can be a challenging. It is a special time for a mother to learn new things about herself and her new little one. Breastfeeding is one of these new experiences. Many mothers find they need additional information and support to successfully enjoy their breastfeeding experience. Providing this information and support is the purpose of the breastfeeding support group, BEST START.

The Kaye Dahle Lactation Center sponsors three groups- each Monday from 10:00 – 12:00 at the Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, 2061 Kentucky Ave, Tyson Hall -Room 204, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216;  Tuesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 at NorthPark, Baptist Church, 5700 Deerfoot Parkway, Trussville, AL 35173; and Thursdays 11:00 to 1:00 at Urgent Care Shelby Clinic, 3143 Pelham Hwy, Pelham, AL 35214.  Any mother is welcome to visit the group. It is an informal setting where mothers share information and ideas for solving problems and celebrate successes. At any given meeting there could be a discussion of colic, poor milk supply, teething, starting solid foods, sleeping issues, or weaning. A Lactation consultant is present at every meeting to answer questions and facilitate the group. Digital scales are available for weighing babies.

Parking is easy with no steps or elevators for easy stroller access. Of course, babies and other children are welcome. For more information or directions, call the Lactation Center at 877-1978.
