BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
‐‐ Brookwood Medical Center and CardioVascular Associates, P.C., today announced a definitive agreement to form CardioVascular Associates of the Southeast, LLC, bringing state of the art cardiovascular care to patients and families throughout central Alabama. The transaction is scheduled to close in the fourth quarter.
CardioVascular Associates of the Southeast, LLC, a subsidiary of Brookwood's parent company, Tenet Healthcare Corporation (THC), will employ the physicians of one of the largest cardiovascular practices in the South. CVA is comprised of 30 physician specialists and approximately 195 employees, providing care for more than 46,000 patients annually across central Alabama.
"This strategic partnership blends the legacy and expertise of two of Alabama’s premier healthcare providers," Brookwood President and Chief Executive Officer Garry Gause said. "By integrating our services we plan to increase quality and access, while continuing to provide cost effective, compassionate care. These goals are paramount in an ever
‐changing health care delivery system."
The Brookwood
‐CVA strategic partnership is consistent with an emerging trend between major hospitals and sizable regional practices both in Alabama and across the country, Gause said.
"For more than half a century, patients across central Alabama have relied on our physicians and staff to provide them with world
‐class cardiovascular care," said CVA President Dr. Jerry Chandler. "This partnership ensures the sustainable, long‐term delivery of this type of care. The strength and reputation of Brookwood Medical Center will enable us as physicians to do what we do best – and that is caring for our patients."
The new relationship will be virtually transparent to patients, but will yield significant benefits, especially after CVA relocates its hospital
‐based outpatient clinics in Birmingham into a new, 70,000 square‐foot facility currently under construction near the Colonnade, Dr. Chandler said. These include ease of outpatient parking and access, and internal innovations designed to reduce the amount of time that patients wait to see a physician. Chandler added that the full service CVA Shelby County practice, along with nine other satellite outpatient clinics throughout central Alabama, will continue to operate without change.
