Brookwood Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of Stephen D. Preston to its administrative team. Mr. Preston assumed the role of Vice President of External Affairs.  

Mr. Preston will be developing strategic initiatives and tactical measures to assist Brookwood Medical Center’s efforts to provide healthcare services to the community. Specifically, he will be working with governmental agencies, regulatory authorities, business interests and other healthcare providers to align comprehensive health planning and the organization’s overall goals and objectives.

“Steve brings over 20 years of healthcare experience to this new role at Brookwood,” says Garry L. Gause, President and Chief Executive Officer of Brookwood Medical Center. “The competitive landscape in our state’s healthcare environment is more active than ever, so Steve’s expertise will be crucial to strategic decisions made by our hospital in both the short and long-term.”

Mr. Preston most recently held the position of Vice President of Planning and Business Development at Huntsville Hospital, a 901-bed acute care facility with more than 5,000 employees, and a 625-member medical staff. Preston has also served as the Vice President of Strategic Planning and Development for Eastern Health System, Development Analysis for Strategic Medical Systems, Inc. and Business Research Analyst for the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation at Kirklin Clinic.

Mr. Preston served for Governor Riley on the state’s Certificate of Need Review Boards from 2003-2008, and was an appointed member of the Statewide Health Coordinating Council from 2002-2003. He has also been a member of the Alabama Hospital Association’s Legislative and Data Committees. He holds memberships in the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development.

Preston received his B.S. in Commerce and Business Administration from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and his MBA from Samford University.
