Inpatient Programs
6 South
6 South is a unit designed specifically for the medically ill, older adult patient. The secured unit provides inpatient psychiatric care to help deal with issues related to early to late stage dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. Additionally, the unit treats other behavioral health issues such as severe depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Average length of stay varies based on response to treatment and other factors.
Intermediate Care Unitus 1,2, and 3
The secured Intermediate Care Units are for one of our more acute patient populations. This may inlcude patients being treated for acute psychosis, those with suicidal ideation and patients that have attempted suicide. Patients involved with probate court are also admitted to this unit. Average length of stay varies based on each individual's response to treatment and/or based on probate court involvement.
Adult Ground Floor Unit
Patients admitted to this secured inpatient unit are dealing with severe mood, anxiety or other disorders, including severe personality disorders. Patients may be stepped down to this unit from one of the Intermediate Care Units based on their improved status and ability to participate in the therapeutic milieu. Therapy in this unit focuses on emotional process as well as skills training and psychoeducational groups to assist patients in learning more effective coping strategies. Lenght of stay varies based on each individual's response to treatment.
PICU
Patients admitted to this unit require very close supervision, and some issues that complicate treatment can include autism, mental retardation and homicidal and/or combative tendencies. Length of stay varies based on each individual's response to treatment.
Dual Diagnosis Unit
Currently our Dual Diagnosis Unit is one of the few specialized units in the city of Birmingham that treats individuals with co-curring mental illness and substance dependence. Additionally, the unit offers a range of therapeutic activities, including 12-step treatment modalities. Patients in this unit are beginning or continuing their journey of recovery and are assisted with their symptoms of withdrawal and mental illness. Length of stay varies based on each individual's response to treatment.
