Wound Care & Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Sometimes, the body needs help to heal. Brookwood Medical Center offers hospital-based, outpatient wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The new treatment facility opened in August 2014 and features three hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers, six care delivery areas and some of the most advanced artificial skin techniques available.

Our wound care physicians conduct a comprehensive patient history and thorough physical exam of new patient’s wounds, including taking photographs and measurements to track healing progress. Through regular reports, our consulting physician will provide patients with evaluation results, a plan of care, as well as periodic updates and documentation. Our services include:

  • Advanced therapies
  • Comprehensive wound evaluation
  • Compression
  • Debridement
  • Diagnostic testing

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
This form of therapy delivers 100 percent oxygen at a pressure two and half times greater than normal atmospheric pressure which increases the amount of oxygen in the blood, essentially healing wounds from the inside out. Treatment sessions last about two hours in chambers that resemble a reclining bed encased in a spacious acrylic shell. HBOT is safe and painless; most patients report that the only sensation they feel is a slight pressure on the eardrum, similar to an airplane landing.
