Brookwood Medical Center provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to patients in the Acute Care Therapy, Inpatient Rehabilitation, and Outpatient Rehabilitation environments. Acute Care Therapy and Inpatient Rehabilitation
Located on the 6th Floor of Brookwood Medical Center, our all private room Inpatient Rehabilitation unit offers physical, occupational and speech therapy services.
Medical oversight by physiatrist with board-certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Acute Care Therapy: Physical Therapy services are provided 6 days a week. Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy services are provided 5 days per week. Inpatient Rehabilitation: Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy services are provided 5 days per week. Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Rehabilitation
One-on-one therapy focusing on soft tissue and joint mobilization enables us to better assess patients for joint and myofascial dysfunction. From sports injuries and knee surgeries, to back pain and hip replacements, we strive to help our patients return to their prior level of functioning as closely as possible.
Neurological Rehabilitation Program
Specialized neurological therapies are utilized to help improve function, decrease symptoms, and improve quality of life.

Lymphedema & Oncology Rehabilitation Program
Often caused by surgery, radiation therapy, trauma, or infection, the accumulation of lymphatic fluid may lead to recurrent infection, inflammation, pain, and neurological and motor deficits.
Treatments for lymphedema may include -
• Compression treatment with medical compression bandages or limb compression pumps
• Manual lymphatic therapy
• Therapeutic exercise program
• Recommendation for home equipment, when appropriate

Treatments for oncology patients may include -

Women’s Health Physical Therapy
Dedicated to treating sensitive issues related to women’s health, Brookwood’s specially trained therapists use a personal and supportive approach in working with patients to achieve improved functionality and quality of life.

Amputee & Prosthetic Clinic
By providing a multi-disciplinary approach to problems specific to the amputee or person preparing for amputation, our team of qualified and dedicated professionals addresses needs related to amputation rehabilitation and prosthetics.
Patient populations who may benefit from this therapy include –
• Patients preparing for amputation surgery
• Recent amputees prior to being fitted for a prosthesis
• Amputees having problems such as pain, skin breakdown, balance/gait disturbances, or activities of daily living
• Patients in need of appropriate prosthetics, footwear, or orthotics
• Patients in need of emotional, psychological, and social counseling and therapy from a professional
TMJ/Facial Pain Therapy
Our specially trained therapists provide our patients facial/intra-oral massage and soft tissue/joint mobilization to the jaw and neck area. Relaxation and postural exercises are also done in conjunction with modalities as deemed appropriate.

Pre-Op Conditioning and Education Program for Joint Replacement - A strengthening exercise program for patients provided up to eight weeks prior to surgery. The program, consisting of exercises and education, is administered by a physical therapist. Patients are also offered a class that instructs them on what to expect during their hospital recovery period. Call 205-978-1689 for more information.
Aquatic Programs
Programs designed to help participants achieve and maintain health and fitness goals during all stages of life. Classes include perinatal aquatics, postpartum aquatics, Water Babies (infant and parent), Aqua Fit (cardiovascular workout), arthritis aquatics, and community aquatics (open pool setting).
