Brookwood Medical Center is pleased to offer scholarships and internships to nursing students or students enrolled in an undergraduate healthcare program. To find out more about each of the programs offered, please select from the choices below:

 NURSING SCHOLARSHIP AND INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS

Brookwood offers scholarships to students enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. Applications are available at your school’s Financial Aid Office or through the Brookwood Nursing Scholarship Committee. A link to the application can also be found at the end of this section. 

The number and type of scholarships available may vary from year to year.

Scholarship funds are sent to the student’s account at the school and may be used for tuition, fees, books, uniforms and other required school expenses.

A.D.N. Scholarships

Scholarships of $3,000 per year are awarded to students accepted for enrollment in A.D.N. programs for one or two years.

B.S.N. Scholarships

Scholarships of $5,000 per year are awarded to students accepted for enrollment in B.S.N. programs for their junior and senior years.

 Cookie Long Scholarship

An A.D.N. or B.S.N. scholarship is offered for a licensed practical nurse that has been employed at Brookwood for at least two years and is enrolled in an accredited school of nursing.

Margaret Israel Millsap Scholarship

Brookwood Medical Center offers an annual $6,000 scholarship in honor of Dr. Margaret Millsap’s outstanding contributions to nursing practice and education.

The recipient of this scholarship will be an outstanding junior or senior applicant in a B.S.N. program, must be a member of Association of Nursing Students, active in campus or civic organizations and must complete a preceptorship at Brookwood Medical Center.

M.S.N. Student Scholarships

Scholarships of $7,500 for the entire program are available to students in a clinical or nursing administration major.

Doris Elder Coppage Perioperative Nursing Internship for New Graduates

In memory of Doris Elder Coppage’s outstanding contributions to Perioperative and Infection Control nursing

Applicants must be a senior in a B.S.N. program, a member of the Association of Nursing Students, active in campus and civic organizations, and must complete a clinical rotation in surgery at Brookwood Medical Center. 

 APPLICANT CRITERIA

 Academic  

• High school seniors: Overall B average. Final award is made when accepted to college.
• College students who have not yet taken nursing courses: 3.0 G.P.A.
• College students who have taken nursing courses: 3.0 G.P.A. overall and a 3.0 G.P.A. in nursing courses.
• Graduate students: Graduate of an accredited B.S.N. program with a 3.0 overall G.P.A. and a 3.0 G.P.A. in nursing courses.

 Personal

• Recommendation from faculty advisor, faculty member of your most recent course, or the director of the school
• Letter of recommendation from financial aid office regarding need
• No academic or social probations
• No criminal record that would interfere with obtaining a license
• Eligible for employment 

Professional

• Member of Student Nursing Association preferred
• Participation in school and civic activities preferred

Other

Brookwood Medical Center employees must submit a letter from immediate supervisor and personal letter (see details on application form).

SERVICE COMMITMENT

Scholarships of one to two years in length require a one year full-time employment commitment to Brookwood Medical Center.

 APPLICATION

Applications and requests for scholarship renewal must be received by the Brookwood Scholarship Committee no later than April 1st of each year. Applicants will be notified in writing of acceptance or denial. Scholarship funding begins each fall quarter/semester.

BROOKWOOD MEDICAL AUXILIARY, INC.
HEALTHCARE-RELATED SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS


The volunteers of the Brookwood Medical Auxiliary, Inc. award scholarships each year to students who are enrolled in either a two-year or four-year undergraduate healthcare program.

Scholarships are issued for one year of academic study and recipients must re-apply each year for consideration of renewal. Scholarships are awarded for the fall semester. The number and type of scholarship may vary from year to year. Scholarship funds are sent to the students account at the school and may be used for tuition, fees, books, uniforms and other required school expenses. 
 
Margaret Millsap Scholarship

Brookwood Medical Auxiliary offers an annual $2,000 scholarship in honor of Dr. Margaret Millsap’s outstanding contributions to nursing practice and education in Alabama.

Janeal Griffis Scholarship

In memory of Janeal Griffis, one of Brookwood Medical Center’s former volunteers. When Ms. Griffis passed away she made an endowment to the auxiliary and a scholarship was set up in her name to be awarded each year for academic excellence in the amount of $2,000.

Teenage Volunteer Scholarship

Brookwood Medical Auxiliary offers an annual $1,000 scholarship to teenage volunteers who have participated in our teen summer program for several years, including the summer after they graduate from high school. To qualify the recipient must maintain a “B” average throughout their high school years.

 APPLICANT CRITERIA

• 3.0 Overall G.P.A.
• Completed application form
• Official transcript from current school
• Letter of recommendation from a faculty member
• Letter of recommendation from financial aid officer regarding need
• Short, typed essay explaining why you are applying for this scholarship

Applications must be received by May 31 of each year.
