Everyday life can be overwhelming and sometimes people need help coping with their problems. It may not require an overnight hospital stay, but can be serious enough that outpatient counseling isn’t enough. To meet these needs, Brookwood Medical Center has developed “The Inner Path” Partial Hospitalization Program.
What is Partial Hospitalization?
The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a comprehensive, short-term outpatient program that provides a variety of therapy and educational groups to help patients understand their problems and improve their coping skills. Each patient participates in a psychiatric evaluation, clinical assessment, and treatment. Weekly treatment team meetings will take place to review each patient’s ongoing progress and plan for care after discharge.
PHP participants have the benefit of returning home in the evenings and maintaining important links to their family and their community. This allows them to practice new skills that promote confidence and independence.
Who May Benefit?
PHP is for adults, 19 and older, with significant emotional/mental impairment that affects their ability to function in a social, occupational, or educational setting. People with problems such as depression, anxiety, panic disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse, trauma, or complicated grief can often benefit from partial hospitalization. People at risk for inpatient hospitalization or those who need a transitional experience to re-enter the community from inpatient care may benefit from PHP. Potential patients with extreme instability, such as being an immediate danger to self or others, would indicate a need for inpatient hospitalization.
Participants arrive at 9:30 AM and attend sessions until 2:30 PM with an hour break. Patients may bring their own lunch or eat at the Brookwood Medical Center cafeteria.
